Sustainability September: How Our Community Is Creating Real Change

This September, we want to pause and reflect on what sustainability really means. Not just as a buzzword, but as a practice, a commitment, and a way of living. At The Earthling Co., sustainability is at the heart of every product we make and every decision we take. But here’s the truth: it’s not just about us. It’s about you.

Since 2020, our Earthling community has proven that small, everyday choices—like choosing a shampoo bar instead of a plastic bottle—can add up to something massive. And when you look at the numbers, the impact speaks volumes.

The Numbers Behind the Movement

When we think about sustainability, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. The scale of climate change, plastic pollution, and biodiversity loss can feel daunting. But that’s why measuring impact matters: it shows us that collective action works. Here’s what we’ve accomplished together since 2020:

3.8 million+ plastic bottles diverted from landfills. Every time you skip the plastic and choose low-waste products, you prevent more pollution from entering our environment. That’s millions of bottles that won’t end up in oceans, rivers, or overflowing waste systems.

335,000+ gallons of water saved. By creating waterless formulations like shampoo and conditioner bars, we cut out unnecessary water use in production and shipping. To put that into perspective, that’s more water than 5,500 people use in a month.

6.9 million+ pounds of carbon emissions offset. We operate with carbon neutrality in mind, and together, we’ve kept millions of pounds of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere. That’s equivalent to taking nearly 700 cars off the road for an entire year.

$125,000+ donated to environmental justice and cleanup efforts. Beyond product design, we support on-the-ground action. Through donations of funds and products, we’ve invested in frontline organizations tackling plastic pollution and fighting for climate equity.

These numbers matter, but they’re not the whole story. They’re the ripple effect of a community that refuses to accept business-as-usual.

What Sustainability Means to Us

When we say “sustainability,” we mean more than recycled packaging or carbon offsets. We mean a way of doing business that’s thoughtful, intentional, and grounded in responsibility.

At The Earthling Co., sustainability means:

  • Thoughtful, low-waste product design. From formulation to packaging, we think about a product’s entire life cycle. How is it made? What happens after it’s used? Can we design it in a way that avoids waste from the very beginning?

  • Responsibly sourced ingredients. We prioritize ingredients that are safe for people and the planet. That means cruelty-free, vegan, and sourced with care to minimize ecological harm.

  • Plastic-free packaging. Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental crises of our time. By choosing plastic-free packaging, we’re removing single-use plastics from the equation entirely.

  • Carbon-neutral operations. From shipping logistics to our supply chain, we’re committed to offsetting emissions while also working to reduce them at the source.

  • A relentless pursuit of better. We don’t see sustainability as a finish line. It’s an ongoing process of learning, adapting, and improving. If there’s a way to do better, we’ll find it.

Why Impact Reports Matter

Numbers can feel abstract, but they’re essential. They give us accountability, help us track progress, and remind us that change is happening—even when it feels slow. Impact reporting is our way of staying transparent with you. It’s not just about highlighting successes; it’s about holding ourselves to the standard we set when we started The Earthling Co.

We also hope these numbers serve as encouragement. It’s easy to feel powerless in the face of environmental challenges, but the truth is that collective action does move the needle. Every time you swap, refill, or reuse, you’re part of that momentum.

A Note of Gratitude

Finally, we want to say thank you. None of this impact would be possible without you—our Earthling community. Your choices, your advocacy, and your willingness to rethink daily habits are what drive this progress.

Every small act matters. Every purchase adds up. Every voice that says, “There’s a better way,” contributes to this shift. Together, we’re showing what’s possible when sustainability isn’t an afterthought but a way of life.

This Sustainability September, we celebrate the wins, acknowledge the work still ahead, and double down on our mission. Because the planet doesn’t need a few people doing sustainability perfectly. It needs millions of us doing it imperfectly, consistently, and together.
