Partner Spotlight: Who is Plastic Ocean Project?

As a company whose work is centered around fighting the plastic pollution crisis, we are extremely excited to introduce you to one of our 1% for the Planet partners, Plastic Ocean Project!

Who is Plastic Ocean Project?

Plastic Ocean Project, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in Wilmington, NC with a mission to educate through field research, implement progressive outreach initiatives, and incubate solutions to address the global plastic pollution problem, working with and for the next generation to create a more sustainable future.

What do they do?

Plastic Ocean Project is bringing the best and brightest leaders to the table to take on the challenge of removing plastics from our oceans while creating sustainable businesses in the process. This includes leaders from the military, federal government, entrepreneurial thinkers, businesses leaders, scientists, researchers, artists, celebrities, fishermen, veterans, and students.

Their long term goals are to actively and collectively incubate five solutions toward the prevention and removal of marine plastics on and off-shore. They are working towards this goal with their community of world leaders by spearheading and mobilizing focused research and innovative projects to meet the challenge of removing man-made debris from our oceans. This includes initiatives such as Trees 4 Trash, Fishing4Plastic, Ocean Friendly Establishments, , and Hope Spot Hatteras, as well as supporting innovations such as Renewology and Microscopic FTIR.

Why did we choose to partner with them?

As a business, we work on resisting the plastic industry by producing low-waste products that are packaged in recycled materials, but there’s still a long way to go in our fight. We’ve chosen to work with Plastic Ocean Project to fight the plastic pollution crisis on a larger scale. We admire Plastic Ocean Project’s passionate community and their work to come up with innovative solutions to remove plastic from our oceans and find alternative uses for the excessive amounts of plastic waste that exists on our planet today. By partnering with them, we hope to help curb plastic pollution for good and support those on the frontlines in cleaning up our planet’s waste.
